What is fireflies?
Firefly is a kind of beetle that can produce light. Also called "Lightning Bugs.” Firefly is included in the family "Lampyridae". Fireflies in Kampung Dew live near Sungai Sepetang river. They live near the water, especially in mangroves. It's because they lay their eggs in the riverbanks, near the Nipah trees and their larvae survive by eating small river snails and insects. Fireflies prefer living in Berembang trees, which are found in the muddy intertidal zones along the riverbank, a few kilometers from the estuaries. We can observe firefly more than 7 kilometers along Sungai Seoetang starting from Jeti Keip-kelip.

We can differentiate a female firefly from a male one by looking at the segment of their light. The female firefly has one segment while the male firefly has two segments and is brighter than the female one. Why do you think the male is brighter than the female? So that it can attract the female firefly for mating. And the best time to observe fireflies
is at night. The ideal time to view them is when the moon is not around but
they can still be seen nicely in any normal night. Fireflies are significant because their presence reveals the environmental health of an ecosystem. They are also beautiful and hard to find.
